Key to the meaning of all widgets in the story.
Once upon a time, there was a little Blue Boy who lived near the hood. People called him Blue Boy Hoody.
One morning Blue Boy Hoody asked his parents if he could go visit his Uncle in the White House in the middle of the hood.
His parents and little village made him a nice basket of wishes to take to his Uncle.
When the basket was ready, the little boy put on his blue hoodie and waved good by.
“Remember, go straight to your Uncles,” cautioned the crowd. “Don’t dawdle along the way and don’t talk to strange animals. The world is a dangerous place.”
“Don’t worry, everyone,” said Blue Boy Hoody, “I will use common sense,”
When Blue Boy Hoody went deep into the hood he noticed a Bee and and Ant fluttering abound some flowers showing Blue Boy Hoody the beauty that lay around him. That was not strange.
They flew near a Spider and his web of deception, the ultimate lie. Blue Boy Hoody shoved them clear of the web. The Spider lurched. This was strange.
A Cat and Dog went by, that was not strange.
Out of no where a Raccoon appeared and scared them all, that was strange.
The Dog calmed the Cat with a lick to its forehead and continued on, reminding Blue Boy Hoody that love can calm fear.
A little ways more and a beautiful Blue garden Bird appeared, as Blue Boy Hoody followed him with his eyes he was reminded of the great beauty all around him. That was not strange.
Then a Crow flew in and dive bombed the garden Blue Bird who had to dodge him. The squawking was drowning out the lovely song of the blue bird. That was strange. Blue Boy Hoody shooed away the crow.
A little ways more a Turtle and Rabbit were building a burrow. That was not strange.
But a Coyote appeared and started to attack the Turtle who went into its shell, and the Rabbit who disappeared into its burrow. Everything they had been working on came to a sudden halt. That was strange.
He was going to shoo away the Coyote but he hesitated. He was getting use to the strange.
Blue Boy Hoody began to dilly dally watching the Spiders, Raccoons, Crows, and Coyotes that the woods contained. He was so engrossed with wonderment and awe at the audacity of their boldness that he did not notice a dark shadow approaching out of the forest behind him.
Suddenly, a Dragon appeared beside him.
“What are you doing out here, little boy?” the Dragon asked in a voice as friendly as he could muster.
“I’m on my way to see my Uncle who lives through the hood, near the Bank,” Little Blue Boy Hoody replied. “My Uncle is sick and needs a job. Others have taken his.”
Then he realized how late he was and quickly excused himself, rushing down the path to his Uncle’s White House.
The Dragon, in the meantime, took a shortcut….
The Dragon, a little out of breath from running, arrived at Uncle’s and knocked lightly at the door.
“Oh thank goodness! Come in, come in! I was worried sick that something had happened to you in the hood,” said Uncle thinking that the knock was his Nephew.
The Dragon let himself in. Poor Uncle did not have time to say another word, before the Dragon gobbled him up.
The Dragon let out a satisfied Tweet, and then poked through Uncle’s wardrobe to find a nightshirt that he liked. He added a sleeping cap, and for good measure, dabbed some of Uncles’s cologne behind his pointy horns.
A few minutes later, Blue Boy Hoody knocked on the door. The Dragon jumped into the bed. ‘’Who is it?” he called in a cackle voice with a wisp of smoke.
“It’s me, Little Blue Boy Hoody.”
“Oh, how lovely! Do come in, my dear,” croaked the Dragon.
When Blue Boy Hoody entered the white house, he could scarcely recognize his Uncle.
“Uncle! Your voice sounds so cold. Is something the matter?” he asked.
“Oh, I’m fighting a virus,” squeaked the Dragon adding a cough at the end to prove the point.
“But Uncle! What big cobwebs in your eyes,” said Little Blue Boy Hoody as he edged closer to the bed.
“The better to see reality, my dear,” replied the Dragon.
“But Uncle! You have Raccoons in Bed with you,” said Little Blue Boy Hoody.
“All the better to scare away evil, my dear,” replied the Dragon.
“But Uncle! You have Crows all around the room,” said Little Blue Boy Hoody.
“All the better to drown out bad thoughts, my dear,” replied the Dragon.
“But Uncle! You have Coyotes with big teeth sitting around us,” said Little Blue Boy Hoody.
“The better to eat you with, my dear,” roared the Dragon blowing fire from his mouth as he leaped out of the bed and the Spiders, Raccoons, Crows, and Coyotes began to chase Blue Boy Hoody.
Almost too late, Little Blue Boy Hoody realized that the person in the bed in the White House was not his Uncle Sam, but a hungry Dragon and his entourage.
He ran across the room and through the door, shouting, “Help! Dragon!” as loudly as he could.
A Conscious Choice Rally Leader who was conducting a Rally nearby heard his cry and ran towards the cottage as fast as he and the people around him could.
He grabbed the Dragon and made him spit out the truth and spit out Uncle, who was a bit dazzled by the whole experience, but still in one piece, as the others rounded up the Spiders, Raccoons, Crows, and Coyotes.
Or was Uncle really ok, he looked weak and fading? “Medic,” Blue Boy Hoody yelled, but no medic was available, they had been discontinued.
“Why are there so many dangerous animals around us?” yelled Blue Boy Hoody. “Where are the Research Scientist?” They too had been discontinued.
Getting a little disconcerted Blue Boy Hoody called for media coverage, so the rest of the world could see what happened and alert others to the danger. “Camera Men!” he yelled.
They came streaming in, but all their lenses had caps with spider webs. This was a bit disconcerting.
Just then lightning struck and thunder as the sky was full of Dragons. There was a huge missile explosion and everything was in disarray. Everyone began to scatter and head for shelter. But there was a huge wall trapping them in.
“Was this only a dream? Wake Up, make the nightmare go away,” Yelled Blue Boy Hoody to himself.
I am Geru, an average garden-variety blue bird. I fly over the town of Nowhere and see a lot. I have a very interesting tale to tell.
Darkness was covering the land. It was a strange and eerie night. Snow had fallen profusely from the dark cloud above. I felt the presence of Dameon, the mythical giant of evil, slithering in his dark veil over the land and in the clouds. In the mist I thought I seen a huge bird of prey fly over. I huddled deeper in my nest at the top of the tree and soothed myself with thoughts of morning.
Empatha, the mythical giant of love, broke the darkness with the first rays of color and a breath of warm air. I flew to central park. All was quiet and serene with its blanket of snow. It was encased on opposite sides by Snob Hill in the East and Slob Hill in the West. They were named after the Rich who lived in the East and the Not so rich in the West. At the base of Snob Hill was the Ghetto and across from it the industrial area. South of the park was the country and north was bird lake. A road ran beside a stream that cut the valley and park in two.
The clouds were parting as the sun’s rays painted the westerly hill in yellow hue as the morning got brighter and brighter. Spring was in the air. New buds lied just under the blanket of snow. The little town was waking up. The first to shatter the quiet was the school kids slamming doors on their houses as they were leaving for school. Soon the laughing and screaming would echo in the park as they would make their way down the paths to cross over where the school was in the southern western edge of the park.
From the North , near the town stores, Edgar, a ten year old plodded along looking at every bud or rock that peeked out of the snow. He had a pet ant in his right hand and a pet bee in his left. They were special pets, if he let them crawl or fly they would always come back. Sometimes the bee would fly dangling the ant from his feet. They talked to each other. But Edgar could not hear them, not through his ears. But intuitively he understood their wonderment of the small things around him
Molly walked down Snob Hill holding Macho her alley cat and followed by Cuddles her dog. Just like Edgar she could not understand their conversation but intuitively. People have most of the instincts of most of the animals, but because they have so many they do not know when to use which one. We pets help our humans decipher when and how.
Sue from the South skipped up the road in the snow. She is my human, my pet. George was running down Snob hill with his pet rabbit and his pet turtle in his backpack. The four kids meet in the park to dream of adventure before school. They approached each other near the center. They were the first to disturb the thick layer of icy snow. Their four paths met in the middle. They laughed with the freedom of being the first and only ones in the park.
George shouts out, “Lets make a big Easter egg and let people wonder what will hatch.”
They all agreed and set about making a five-foot egg. The girls found some flowers under the snow and decorated it. They put a sign next to it stating, ‘Guess What Will Hatch.’
By now four other kids, their neighbors were waddling down the paths they had each made, Ragde from the North, Charlotte from the West, Destiny from the South and Larry from Snob Hill. They came like bullies to tease and make fun of their respective neighbors, who were each very much like them but not bullies.
Regde with his pet spider yells, “Spidie will cover your sign with webs so no one can see it.”
Charlotte with her Pet, Raccoon, contorts, “The egg is ours and if you want it back you must fight for it.”
Destiny yells, “Fate rules, the egg is doomed, we only follow through to destroy it.”
Larry with his pet coyote rushes in and with a stick begins to beat the egg as Coyote runs around wild waiting for something to emerge. George tackles Larry and they wrestle on the ground. They trash around and come close to the egg. Edgar seeing Larry and George maneuvering closer and closer to the egg alerts Molly. Molly seeing the danger to the egg yells, “STOP!”
Sue blurs out, “We all need the egg. Let’s go to the press and tell them about an ominous bird that laid an egg last night in the storm and it is nestled in the snow. It would be an interesting story.”
Larry’s three fellow bullies grab him while the other three retrieve George who was on the bottom of the scuffle.
Radge mutters, “Larry, the press will bring us attention.”
Charlotte remarks, “It’s a cute idea, but we need to make it our project.”
Destiny musses, “It has potential but we need our own egg that will compete with theirs. Lets make it a mysterious one.”
Larry jumps up and starts to roll snow. “Let’s make it ugly and put up a sing that what hatches from our egg will destroy their hatchling.”
So the four new kids built a comparable egg and decorated it with dirt and rocks. Ragde stood back to admire it. Spiedie added some webs making it eerie. Charlotte and Raccoon hugged it lovingly. Destiny with her crow said it looked mysterious enough. Crow looked at me like I was his next lunch. Larry posed with Coyote and said it would hatch a fierce creature. Edgar looked it over shaking his head. Molly frowned as Macho cowered near by. Sue called it Evil and the other, pretty egg, Good. Rabbit jumped around as Turtle slumped into her shell.
The kids went off to school. Edger and Ragde called their fathers who work for the press and told them of the mysterious eggs.
The story hit the morning paper. The news soon spread and people began to visit the eggs and wonder what could be inside. School was dismissed for the morning event. It was quite a pastime. People, with pet ants and bees in their heads such as Edgar’s father, pondered how science would explain the eggs appearing from the snowstorm. People, with Macho fears and Cuddle love in their heads, as Molly’s mother, pondered if the Eggs could be safe for others to be around. Reporters and TV cameramen and even the radio announcers with the deceit of Spiedie wanted to exploit the occasion to sell papers and news stories.
All the concerns spread among the people of the town. Scholars from the school, including Edgar’s father, with Ant and Bee curiosity, looked at both eggs and had suspicions that the kids had made the eggs. They set about looking for clues to prove the origin of the eggs but all the tracks, of the kids who made it, had been trampled by the crowds.
Teachers and school counselors, as is Molly’s mom, with their Macho and Cuddle minds came to look over the eggs to make sure it was safe for children to view. They could make a message for children to look only for the good.
The tavern and Merchant people, like Charlotte’s mother, came. With the raccoons in their minds they ignored the white one and wanted to sell trinkets depicting the black one claiming it was their egg. They set about planning the festival for the evening’s activities.
Soothsayers from the trinket shops of Destiny’s family with their dominant crow minds imagined the eggs came from the stars and wanted to make good luck trinkets, chants, and perhaps worship the eggs, and say the eggs could predict the future, they too set about getting the trinkets ready for the evening festivities.
Church people came from the church, at the base of Snob Hill, in which Sue’s father and mother were pastors. With their Geru, birds eye view, type minds they feared the black egg and wanted to love the white one for what ever was inside. They began to work up sermons to warn people of the danger and possibilities of the eggs.
George’s father, the mayor, came. What was this commotion in the town. What was the danger of too many people amuck. The rabbit in his mind jumped around endlessly. He began to think of security to calm the crowd’s enthusiasm.
Lastly but not least the town tycoon, Larry’s father, arrived in his dark suite to see how he could monopolize the festival. His Coyote mind stocked the situation and he came up with a plan. He would have a huge ceremony to open the eggs. He would charge a fee to come and see the opening. And he would charge a fee for those selling trinkets, and he would manufacture the trinkets for them. His Coyote crotched down for the kill. He would make a killing. He immediately blocked off the area, forbid anyone entrance without paying, and announced the big event.
Noon and then evening came. More and more people began to come to look at the eggs. Those who had already looked at the egg came back to be part of the excitement to come.
With such a commotion and growing crowd the newsmen swarmed the event, counselors and preachers warned about the black egg, speculating to keep Hope and dreams alive and to love purity and not to indulge in mindless pleasures. Scholars and Philosophers speculated on what works in life, what is acceptable, and to avoid thinking dark thoughts.
The trinket sellers worked the crowd selling good luck charms. Larry’s Dad seeing the growing enthusiasm brought in musicians to let people dance to the Dark Egg and to the Mysterious Bird of Prey that must have left it. He then opened up a space by the dark egg and sold tickets to those who wanted to touch it. The crowds huddled in for the touch. As they filled by, the heat of their hands began to melt the egg
This worried Larry’s Dad, as he knew it was fake and would melt to nothing. He added more snow and dirt. But with the heat of so many people the egg continued to melt at a fast rate. He was reluctantly about to shut down the ticket sales and move the crowd back when an amazing thing happened. As the snow melted it revealed a baby dragon.
The scientist said it was a trick, it can’t be, or was it a group delusion. The counselors and preachers said you can get depressed, that they need to return to the white egg as it was more stable. The crowd offered money to get closer to the baby dragon. The mayor said save your money for mom and pop shops and not to waste it on such a hoax, such a gamble. The people ignored him and crowded closer as they paid out their money. Security tried to stop them but the amazement over powered them. As they came and grew in numbers the dragon grew in proportion to their numbers and the amount of money they paid out.
Larry’s father was ecstatic. On the loud speaker he beckoned for more to come and drew more people to the crowd. As more people came and paid money the Dragon grew to be huge. The animal pets of the bullies jumped on his back. Spidie covered his eyes with webs, Raccoon told him the world belongs to him, Crow told him what power he could have, and Coyote put a noose around his head to direct his head. The dragon got huge and more life-like and began to spit fire. Everyone was so frightened they began to panic. Larry’s father announced the protective nature of the trinkets and he began to sell tickets to get closer to the Dragon who now could spit fire. No one wanted to flee as they felt the trinkets would work and they might get burned alive if they ran. The excitement kept them mesmerized. They even paid more money for a closer look.
The animals jumped off the dragon as the Dragon began to spit fire at the white egg burning up the flowers. The egg began to melt. The counselors and preachers reminded the crowd of their warnings and told them to gather around the white egg and prey for a hero to appear to save them from the fury of their excitement that made the Dragon grow. The crowd approached the white egg out of curiosity.
The crowd stopped to take note of what would be revealed inside the egg. They wondered if it would be something to save them or would it be another dragon. The crowd grew silent and watchful. As the flames melted the snow it revealed the figure of a little girl with odd features and weird proportions. She had huge hands and feet, slender arms and legs. The head was diminutive compared to the huge mouth. And if that was not disappointing enough to the crowd she was also blind, with no feeling, no thought, and did not move.
Silence gripped the crowd, followed by laughter, followed by fear. The Dragon grew huge out of their excitement was throwing flames around the crowd threatening them with extinction. The flames now would not let anyone leave. The merchants smiled telling the crowd their trinkets would protect them. Above dark clouds were forming, the wind was picking up, and a chill was settling around everyone. It did not look promising.
Our little buddies, Edgar, Molly, Sue, and George were huddled together near the little frozen child feeling helpless. They looked at us pets with loving eyes in desperation wondering what to do.
That’s when I got an idea. Maybe we need to do for the frozen child what we do for our human pets. We animal pets put our heads together and came up with a plan. We shook on it and stood straight.
And and Bee positioned themselves on the little ice girl’s head, where her eyes were. Macho and Cuddles got on her chest. I settled on top of her head and Rabbit jumped on her right hand with a sword and Turtle on her left hand to be a shield. With our guidance the icy child turned toward the dragon raising her sword in defiance.
A fireball came again and hit turtle as we all trembled huddling behind Turtle’s torso. The small child rolled into a ball.
The Dragon laughed at his opponent. Dragon inhaled, throwing out a line of fire that again circles the crowd. He paused contemplating another breath that would melt the little frozen figure before him. The evil animals again hopped on the dragon to direct him to melt the ice madden.
Ant and Bee ran and hid in her ears making her deaf again. Macho and Rabbit freaked and began to run in circles around the child. I yelled, “Stop. We must work together.”
I told Turtle to grab Rabbit’s tail to slow him down. I urged Cuddles to lick Macho’s face to calm him. I beckoned Ant and Bee back.
I said to them, “Just as Dragon grew with people coming and believing in him so will this child if they cheer her on. Appeal to the people. Have your human pets talk to everyone.”
We all went our respective human pets to communicate our instinctual strengths. Ant and Bee acted vigilant.
Edgar watches and then speaks out, “Folks, be aware, look around. As you spend money and attention on the dragon he gets bigger. Do the same for our hero and she too will grow.”
They turned to the Mayor who offered people to stand closer around the cowering ice child. The crowd, not knowing what to do, began to file over to the side the child was on.
Cuddles and Macho rubbed their little bodies against Molly’s legs. She looked at them and then shouted out to the crowd, “Don’t be afraid, be hopeful. Look at all your emotional potential to help this little one grow strong enough to fight the dragon. Support her.”
I circled Sue and began to build a nest from the debris of what was left of the flowers. Sue smiled and said to the crowd in a firm voice, “You do not have to be helpless and hopeless victims. Challenge the trinket seller and their lies, look at the big picture, home values. Support the child. You will see what works.”
Rabbit steadily picks up the sword sitting in the child’s hand. Tuttle follows suit. All the good animals joined her. George in a bold voice says, “You know what works.”
The crowd looks at the merchants and Dragon and then back to the child. George in a firm voice again speaks and says, “Don’t hesitate. Don’t look to the dragon. You know what works. Look, feel, think, and act. Support the child. Just do it.”
Everyone nodded. One by one they looked over to the child and began to cheer. The soldier child began to grow larger and larger as they clapped and yelled encouraging things. The Dragon began to shrink back and at last sat down and lowered his head to the ground. The crowd again felt safe.
Now you would think this would be the end of the story, Dragon is under control and everyone goes home. Oh, no. As the soldier girl grew and the Dragon shrunk the child began to get sad. As her Ant and Bee seen the dragon shrinking, her Macho’s fear shrank and her Cuddle’s love grew. She had love, even for the Dragon. She sat on her shield and put her hands on her face.
Rabbit grew weary and went back to the kids. Cuddles followed and fell asleep. Ant and Bee also left and stopped moving. I had dark thought that without battle there is little for the crowd to do. As the crowd all began to calm down they looked to the Dragon for excitement and entertainment. Then the Dragon began to grow and arise again. He snorted a bit of fire out of his nose. The child began to shrink as the dragon again grew. The crowd grew afraid.
What a stale mate. The child or the dragon, only one grows and rules at a time, not both? Everyone was in limbo. Would this be the fate of the little town, forever cheering on the child until the cheers no longer worked on the child. Or letting the dragon grow until the child again responds to cheers. Then she feels sorry for the dragon and the cycle repeats itself. How can anyone get on with life?
But without the dilemma the Merchants would have no crowd to sell trinkets to. The press would have no one to produce stories for, the counselors and trinket sellers would not be able to go to their offices or shops. The preachers and soothsayers would have nothing more to say to their audience. The crowd would be still.
With the on going dilemma the mayor would be stuck forever controlling the crowd and the factories would do nothing but pour out trinkets as the whole story repeats itself?
As I contemplated the dilemma I noticed the clouds above were getting fiercer and fiercer. Dragons were gathering from everywhere. I seen the mysterious bird of prey looking on like a conductor of an orchestra. The little soldier looked up at the sky and its ever darkening brew of trouble. A worried look came over her face. How could she fight them all, even with constant cheering of the crowd there would be no way she could grow big enough to win. The Dragons had the advantage of flight, fight, and retrieval back into the skies. If she grew and fought back one and than another there would always be another to tantalize her while another rested. They would take turns attacking her until she dropped from exhaustion or melted away. What would then become of the crowd? The dragons would then burn and devour the little town. Then the icy Dragon too would melt away. Everyone looked up and felt fear. The icy dragon began to grow even bigger as the crowd lost faith in the child. The people did not know what to do. If they cheered on the Dragon he would grow and scare them.
The dragon looked up into the sky. He could not join them, he would shrink without the peoples attention. He did not know how to fight another dragon. He needed the crowd who was now too afraid to cheer.
The soldier girl got a twinkle in her eye and went over to the dragon who was just the right size to ride. She jumped on the dragon’s back and turned to the crowd and with a huge smile declared, “We will protect you all.”
With that she and the dragon, who looked to her guidance, flew off to the dragon wars. The crowd cheered and each day remembered to cheer them on, the child and the Dragon. To this day the clouds show the Dragon wars mostly in storms and sunsets. But even on a near clear day the wisps of clouds show the battle as the city goes from love to greed, then their fears bring them back again to cheer and love the little hero and her Dragon.
In the distance the sound of the school bells could be heard. All the kids ran off to school. Our eight kids who made the eggs went off to school together chatting.
The sun came out, the snow melted along with the eggs, and the bird of prey hid behind a small black cloud.
KEYS TO VALENTINE
READ THEM OVER, THEY TELL YOU WHAT THE CHARACTERS REPRESENT
THE ABOVE KEY REPRESENTS THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE UPPER NATURE, THE ALTRUISTIC NATURE ON THE LEFT AND THE LOWER NATURE, OR SURVIVAL MODE, ON THE RIGHT. THEY ARE TRYING TO GUIDE THE MIND IN THEIR OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. There are four stages of the brain, first, Ant and Bee perceives the environment or Spidie makes up lies. Second, Mach fear and Loving Cuddles must guide our sails to the right directions in life or Selfish Raccoon has shallow solutions that may not help. Third, Geru flys over head to view the situation and studies the wisdom of the ages to be able to plan where to go and what to do, or Crow blames everyone or everything rather than looking at what works. And Fourthly, Patient Turtle and Energetic Rabbit at the helm follow through with workable solutions rather than becoming an aggressive predator like coyote.
Without love guiding Cuz’s conscious choice, he made the wrong choice and put fighting in the gangs ahead of her. His Upper Nature wants to help him in the relationship and his Lower Nature sees a chance to lead him astray.
His little cousins and their friends will try and help him go the right or wrong direction. Each child’s dominant widget is shown trying to give their advice for Cuz. One gives good advice, the other not so good.
A flower is as delicate as love, it needs to be nurtured. In any relationship we must nurture our partner like a mother to her infant, serving this baby’s needs so it can live and be happy.
Our beliefs determine how we perceive, feel, plan, and act on events. If we do not believe a relationship takes fair consideration and leave it to luck, our luck will run out.
A decision we have to make at all times is do we work for instant pleasures, act out for temporary excitement and forget about being fair to others, or do we stop and think about gaining greater lasting pleasure by being a fair person in our relationships.
The pain temps us for instant relief. Cuz’s journey is to find another way.
Without love to reward us for being with others we turn for instant reliefs that can bring addictive pleasure but leave us high and dry when the dust settles.
Larry’s dad is the richest man in town and so wields a lot of power and sells addictive things.
Love for family can help stop addictions if one is not too numbed by the addiction.
Grandma is driven by her Upper Nature and Grandpa often by his Lower Nature.
Love, even from a little child, can wield a lot of power too. But Cuz must learn more.
GP does not take well to GM suggesting he feel weak by giving attention to love.
Cuz first step in his journey is to learn what he can from those who know more.
Addictions can not be sustained and depression results after the excitement is over.
We are like chemical robots, we must continually keep our good chemicals flowing by doing the right things, things that keep us going with hope for more or better pleasures.
A relationship must go both ways or it drains the Upper Nature, and even the Lower Nature. Then we have nothing to float our boat in, or very little.
Perceptions, emotions, thoughts, and actions all need to be engaged to create lots of chemicals that give us happiness, but they need a guide.
Love must go both ways between people, empathy helps us do that. Without it we are lost.
Without fear for the safety and the happiness of others, and without the guidance of empathy we are psychopathic, and our Lower Nature controls our then weak Upper Nature. Survival mode takes over as if everyone is the enemy.
Hollow promises are easily seen through as promises that can not be kept. Step one, perceive correctly our loved one’s reactions.
Love is about safety and meeting our needs for correct perception, emotions, thoughts, and actions.
No blaming, its about fairness and balancing our actions and needs with theirs.
Is love a fight? Do we force love? Or do we change ourselves to adjust to the other person. The best definition of intelligence is adapting to our environment and others such that we and others are safe and happy.
Cuz went through the four stages to get the best reactions from his Girlfriend. He has the right steps, but it not an easy process, life and relationships throw us lots of different situations. Our personalities, or combination of our own Upper and Lower Natures widgets and their different strengths and history, get in the way. Just remember this, often you do all these steps easier when you first date someone, as you are putting off your own quirky personality traits to please the other. Date you love ones for life.
CHRISTMAS HEALS OUR CITIES – SOCIAL SCIENCE
The Universe supplied our Earth with the molecular tools needed for life. They are all over the Universe. This does not dispute any belief system as the ‘Creator’ created the tools.
These molecular tools began to create organisms that became more and more complex. Like little computers creating DNA and turning genes on and off to fit the environment. The organisms compete for resources. It was a existence of eat or be eaten. Sensory input was one of the first steps in creating intelligent brains. Ant and Bee are good examples of that. Ant see’s, hears, smells, tests, and touches details and Bee perceives larger patterns.
As organisms’ brains became more complex the young needed a mother and/or a father to bond to them long enough to protect them in the longer and longer developmental stages. Fear and love in animals are represented by Macho Cat and loving Cuddles the dog. Geru the blue bird represents complex belief systems needed for the mind to organize its experiences. Patient Turtle and energetic Rabbit represent the part of the brain that takes action. Deceptive Spiedie, selfish Raccoon, blaming Crow, and aggressive Coyote represent the Lower Nature, or survival mode that developed to avoid being killed and devoured.
Some changes are needed that nature did not code into DNA programs. DNA gives us the brains to make those changes faster and more complex then ever before. It is as if the combined brains of many become a larger more complex shared brain.
Coding did not put a ceiling on many human traits, as how deceptive, or greedy, or blaming and aggression should we display? The environment set ceilings by what was possible to do. People had to change with the environments that limited or expanded their activities. As we created bigger more deadly weapons our influence on others and nature became more and more helpful or destructive. The ceiling of what we can do is only limited by our imaginations, time, and technology. Our advances can be for survival or counter survival. The Lower Nature can disregard the Upper Nature and only use the UN to create more havoc and evil.
The Lower Nature was faster so it could respond to emanate danger, run before you get eaten or strike back first. What is the mechanism for this to happen.
Fear can close down the Upper Nature to only utilize it for defensive reasons. But it can respond to false dangers, that appear to them to be dangerous but are not. There is a inherent conflict between the Upper and Lower Nature. Many people will go with their Lower Nature because it is easier than to stop and think. Life becomes dark and depressed with only addictions or negative thoughts.
You may ask how Christmas can bring relief to the sad and weary. It is built into our DNA to respond to certain environments with more energy, pleasant, and invigorating responses. When fear and the Lower Nature has commandeered all the Upper Widgets but the three left and seen below, how does our conscious choice get the others back so our Upper Nature gets back into control?
We have to make the conscious choice to STOP what we are doing to calm down.
Loving feelings, caring more about the other person’s reactions than our own calms our fears and aggressions. Trying to be more patient can stop excess energy, and then its Geru’s turn.
We need to take a closer more accurate look of the events, be upbeat, serve others, remember our more moral and ethical teachings, and patiently try moral and ethical actions. Then we begin to do what better works for ourselves and others. Christmas is a good example of what helps us be better people.
Many of our children get into the wrong crowds that do mischief. Unsavory people can put them up to gang behaviors to sell their addictive goods, such as drugs or stolen good. Grandma is looking at the fight with her Upper Nature and Grandpa with his let anything go attitude and cynicism.
One little girl thrown into the chaos brought her cousin from his Lower Nature back to his Upper Nature in order to save her. He had to become a hero.
This is the state of affairs in neighborhoods like Cuz was in when BJ came to his rescue. But these bad cities have hope when the people in them begin to stop the fighting and decide to create a more pleasant atmosphere, even if it is only for a while, for Christmas.
This is so simple but only a beginning. And and Bee take notice of the glitter, even if it is only more light twinkling, and they grow stronger so they can look around more, get out of the gloomy state of affairs and look beyond.
This is the most disputed event of Christmas. But really, it is very simple. If a little girl can tame us, so can an infant little boy. We put a lot of hope on our little ones. If we try and protect them we have to be more moral and ethical. Democracy began in families, parents giving all their children, no what age, a chance to develop themselves.
Its fun to receive gifts, but oh, boy, can it be thrilling to give gifts, especially if they serve others, meet their needs. We give lots of free things away, money, food, and smiles.
So its time to take action and join the fun. Lets not put down any religions festivities that serve to bring peace and happiness to others. If we could perk up every year, month, week, or day this would be a much better place. If we serve others and meet all our needs they call it peace.
Halloween is a Mental Health Test
KEYs to Cartoon
The key gives a quick outline of mental health. The Upper Nature if
healthy and tends to see reality better, be cautious and loving, make fair judgements and decisions, and do what’s right. The Lower Nature is quick to distort, be greedy, blame, and be aggressive to win at all costs. It is the survival mode and handy to have in real emergencies but gets us into trouble otherwise when not really needed.
Just as we want to be physically fit….
…we need to be mentally fit. Its like a game of soccer with opposing teams. The Upper Nature heads for the goalie of Doing the right things. The Lower Nature heads for the goalie of Its All About Me so do what it takes to win. The Upper Nature has to win over the Lower Nature if you want to be mentally fit and able to network and meet your goals. The Lower Nature may need to win when real danger is evident, other wise it will drag you down with defensiveness, bore you, and make others defensive too.
The Upper Nature heads for the goalie of Do What’s Right. The Lower Nature heads for the goalie of Its All About Me. If our Ant & Bee, awareness, is not alert our Spiedie perception will deceive us and we loose the ball or focus. The same with Macho scardy cat and Cuddles love. If they are not looking out for safety to help others then our selfish Raccoon will steel the ball. Wise Geru will loose the ball to fantasy beliefs of Crow. If Rabbit does not patiently guard, with Turtle, the ball will score for the wrong reason or people. Coyote may not let you make a goalie and his gang has another chance to score.
Everyone has a dominant widget. Any group of people will vary one from another. If the group has all the dominant Upper Nature widgets possible, they can be a very efficient team. If they have only dominant Lower Nature widgets they can be a destructive gang. I show which kids have which dominant widgets by matching their positions below the widgets. Kids and people tend to pick careers and activities that reflect their dominant widgets. On Halloween, if left to their own devices, kids and adults often like to dress up in ways that reflect their tendencies. They somehow identify with their favorite costumes.
Edgar likes observing the world like Ant and Bee in detail and see patterns, he favors dressing up like a scientist. Ragde likes to be more deceptive like Spiedie.
Molly, the loving one, is like Cuddles and Sue, the wise one, like Geru who see’s the larger truths. Charlotte, the greedy selfish one, is like Raccoon and Destiny dresses like the guilt that haunts you or others, like Crow the blaming one.
George is out to save the world with the energy and patience of Rabbit and Turtle while Larry is the aggressor predator like Coyote. So we have the two teams, Upper and Lower natures. The Upper Nature wants Treats and the Lower Nature wants to Trick and take it all. The Lower Nature gang plots to hurt others for pleasure.
Every time you stand at the door and say Trick or Treat, what lurks in your inner most being? Do you grudgingly say Treat me or I will defiantly Trick, or do you really enjoy the Upper Nature of the event and share the pleasures that others get to give treats? Only you know what lurks in your heart. But your costume may be giving you away.
When Our Beliefs Depress Us
Another Christmas story, it’s not our hearts that ruin Christmas but Christmas Fears.
Christmas can be a time of war. War between our altruistic upper nature and our selfish lower nation, war between stores altruistic Upper Natures and their selfish profit oriented Lower Natures. And thirdly the community at large, as a consensus of individuals, struggles with the Christmas spirit of gloom and doom.
I call myself I, but ‘I’ is really my little widget hero, Mr/Ms Do, my consciousness. I directs his/her crew, widgets in my head that makes up a happy me; perceptive Ant and Bee, scardy cat Macho, loving Cuddles, wise Geru, patient Turtle, and energetic Rabbit. ‘I’ and crew keeps Dragon, my alter ego, who directs his gang; deceptive Spiedie, selfish Raccoon, blaming Crow, and aggressive Coyote, from hopping up, taking over, and creating a miserable me.
Three tiers of widgets, (1) those in our heads, (2)a consensus of those in stores or other groups of people, and (3) a community consensus of individuals and of the group’s widgets are at war. TV land and News has a large perceptive Ant and Bee who has to keep a large deceptive Spiedie from taking over. It is a fight for truthful news. While a selfish Raccoon runs the local Dive, the counselor’s office has a large loving Cuddles dealing with a large scary cat Macho in the fight for functional behaviors. A gambling Crow officiates over the Video Arcadis as churches and schools have a large wise Geru trying to help others have more purposeful or meaningful beliefs, and a large aggressive Coyote may run the polluting factory while the groups that run stores often have large energetic Rabbits in need of a wise Geru to pick which toys to sell. It is a fight for truthful news, altruistic behaviors, functional beliefs, and non wasteful non polluting toys and stuff.
The widgets that are the consensus of the entire community dwell above and below the land waiting for the right time to jump down to guide or pop up to create havoc. You can see them in the clouds or in deep wholes, or under the bed.
Christmas is one of those times when all Three Tiers of Upper Nature widgets and Lower Nature widgets clash. Delight and havoc both abound. While children dream of presents to come, doting parents want to comply but dread the bills, aunts and uncles fear the drudgery of shopping and cooking. Group Mr/Ms Dos and crews decorate stores while Dragons and their gangs raise store prices on junk, chasing the dollar. Upper Nature Community widgets influence cheer in the streets while Lower Nature widgets wait below to pop up and create sorrow.
In my home, like many others, Christmases Past influence my Ant and Bee, like sugar plumb fairies, to dance around the Christmas trimmings while Spiedie adds snowy cob webs displaying the price tags while predicting stock market crashes.
As the loving doggie Cuddles cruises through the catalogs loving all she can see, Raccoon robs our bank accounts with pending bills wanting our last dollar.
Blue bird Geru chirps and sings the Christmas tunes as Crow squawks the pain and grinding reality of Past Christmas blues.
Turtle holds back Rabbit wanting to tear into those mysterious packages waiting to be ravished. Coyote anticipates the carnage left behind with all the agony of a graveyard of past events.
The dilemma begins way before Christmas with the damn stores throwing in the ornaments, in the isles, with treats for Halloween. Ghosts, Goblins and trees and trimmings intermingling. Those store greedy gremlins of commercial evils motivated by the survival widgets, Dragon and gang, ruin it for us all.
As our eyes dart around with Ant and Bee at the bright colored ornaments, Spiedie’s cobwebs creep us out, capturing our attention and lie to us, disguising and degrading the delights of Christmas decorations.
Trick or Treat candy is surrounded by tarantulas while greedy Raccoons and filthy rodents mingle with Ginger Bread houses haunting us, trashing what love we had, leaving us with the fears of filthy freaks, fake fangs, and foul fantoms.
Like Macho Scardy Cat we abandon the Christmas Spirits and with our tails between our legs we trot off to lick our wounds.
Will it be the beautiful melodious songs of Christmas, like Geru, a garden bird chirping the wonders of nature, or the racket of black Crow, shrouded with the black shawls of halloween, that smother our thoughts with corporate conspiracy, the tricks of the commercial beasts, shoving Christmas in our faces prematurely. Those evil store managers, it’s all their fault squacks Crow with hideous laughter.
What shall we do, patiently wade through the displays with Rabbit’s energy or let Coyote trash it all with the spirits of Halloween. We want to abandon the treats of Halloween and Trick them all by turning around and walking out, determined to be the Scrooge with evil spirits of the past and allowing the Grinch to obliterate it all.
Which widgets will rule? The joyful spirits or the evil? Will the community celebrate or mourn.
The season is coming, brace yourself, will it be a joy ride or a jolt? Will Christmas be Merry or Miserable. Will I have Free Will or be bamboozled. Will I enjoy or is it a Joke, fake or faith. Will I be trapped, trampled, tormented or joyfully find Christmas a time of taunting treats and tantalizing tasks.
It all depends on us, the battles within. The battle of the widgets, mine, yours, and ultimately the effect it has on all groups, ultimately the common, conglomeration, and consensus of us all that creates city widgets. Widgets of curious, loving, thinking, and active freewill or widgets from below, survival widgets looking to lurk above and fill our streets with lies, greed, blame, and violence. Our moods culminate in city function or the dragons of dysfunction.
Like Turtle or Rabbit me and thousands of others withdraw into our shell or flee as fast as we can as if Coyote was chasing us to devour our luck. We high tail it home, sink into our bed, cover our head and and settle in for a long winters nap, until January and a new start.
How do we fight our dragons? Where is our Free Will, our Super hero of conscious choice, Mr/Ms Do, to change our future, master our world, reclaim our freedom, and enjoy the Holidays once again as we did as a child?
We think of the Tiny Tim’s of this world, let them have Christmas. We are through. No angel of ghosts of past, present, and future going to entice us from the safety of our covers. The hell with Christmas.
As we lay there quiet and safe we let a tiny, ever so small, image enter into our heads, just for a second, not too long, the image of a small tyke, by golly, it was me. I was laughing at the Jolly old Elf. It all made so much sense then, so simple, so full of wonderment, Ant and Bee’s delight.
Then we have a flash to an older child with parents gathered around the tree and presents with Macho and Cuddles and wrapping paper everywhere and the parents smiling.
Another flash and a preteen staring at the picture of the name sake of Christmas. Geru flutters above.
Another flash and an adult apparition handing treats to the delicate little hands, mine of days of yore. Rabbit was ecstatic.
Again a small little image, a little voice saying don’t give up, don’t feel trapped. It was me, my consciousness, a little Mr/Ms Do with crew appearing to fight the now very large Dragon and gang of the city.
Oh, it was a fierce fight. The little guy fought to exhaustion, I and crew were surely loosing. There they stood tiny as could be, little Ant and Bee, Macho Scardy Cat, the biggest of all and running off to join Raccoon, Cuddles the loving dog with tail between her legs, Turtle withdrawn in her shell, and Rabbit running off to join Coyote and the Dragon to trash the streets. Such pitiful little characters watching them begin to tear down the central decorated city tree. The whole nation was beginning to mourn with doomsday.
Consciousness an exhausted little hero mustered up his strength to yell STOP. All the widgets stopped as if statues. Then ‘I’ went to Cuddles stroking her back and encouraged her to calm Macho Cat with a lick to his face. As she complied Macho shrank and Cuddles grew. Your little hero told Turtle to stop Rabbit by snapping and hanging on to his cotton tail. As Turtle did she grew. All of them were growing together but Geru.
They all stood by Mr/Ms Do and grew together to the size of Dragon and his gang, all but Geru. He was too small for my little hero and crew to win. They desperately needed him to fly above and orchestrate the fight.
I cringed as I became aware it was all because of me, my Geru, he did not believe in Christmas. But how could I believe in something I did not believe in. I sank deeper into my covers peeping out only through my imagination.
I could see tiny Geru circling over head above my head. What would the world or city be like without Holidays, good clean Holidays, Holidays without Crow squawking complaints and obscenities and blaming others for the miseries of the world? Just them Geru dashed out the window with Mr/Ms Do and crew followed by Dragon and gang and my imagination right behind.
The town looked haggard and beaten down with the streets deserted from boredom or crime that abounds. Screams of horror, city traffic honking, smells of garbage, and the smell of gasoline permeated the night. The heat of the pavement perpetuated the smell. Pass time was gambling, drinking, and human trafficking. The cities LN widgets ruled.
Christmas Past had passed though my covers, Christmas Now loomed in the city view. What would be Christmas Future?
My little Geru flew up to a low cloud and like a perched conductor his wings went out and began to wave in the air. Like a wizard of old, sparks shot out from the tips of his wings. He pointed the sparking spray at Ant and Bee and TV stations.
The TV station search lights sprang forth and illuminated the skies. Christmas ornaments began to fall from the sky, like a refreshing spring shower after a hot summer night. Blue bird chirped and melodious Christmas music could be heard. A growing smell of bakery goods and candy began to take over. It was beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.
Mr/Ms Do began to perk up. He grew a little larger. He pointed at Cuddles and urged her on. She looked around at the little town walking down its streets as she walked a parade of people appeared behind her looking into the windows of now illuminated shops. The streets were alive. Then chatter could be heard. It was beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas.
Raccoon tried to hiss at the crowd. They only ignored him. Raccoon began to sleek into the corners of the alleys and disappear.
Crow ominously swept across the sky. By now Geru also had grown. Like a wizard of old he drug his wing across the sky and Santa and sleigh followed behind wiping Crow away. Children below cheered.
Geru swept his other wing and religious symbols appeared in the illuminating clouds. Adults below, like angels, ushered their children to where choirs of roaming singers. People were beginning to Think a Lot Like Christmas.
The town and skies had been transformed. Radio, TV, the streets, and individual homes were full of sights, sounds, happy people, enjoying the tales and events of tradition. It was Acting a Lot Like Christmas.
I was beginning to feel a lot better. The Lower Nature widgets of the city, the stores, and my own were smaller and the Upper Nature Widgets were larger.
But, I thought, what about presents and the economy, and ecology, the strain and stress on ecology to celebrate so frivolously? The earth herself can be damaged.
It’s Our Choice of what we buy, of what we encourage to be eked out of the earth. It was Our Choice to destroy or to build. Well, it was happening, right along with Rabbit, I could not complain, all was alive with every one Christmas shopping, all but me. I shook under my covers, hanging tightly with my stressed knuckles. I needed to put my input into how Christmas should look, feel, think, and do. My vote was my dollar.
Then Mr/Ms Do peered in under where I was. He and his crew including Geru were much bigger then Dragon and gang who had shrunk. Dragon and crew tried to hold me under. Mr/Ms Do and crew pulled me out. I and Rabbit had some shopping to do. Off I ran to find Safe and Sound presents to show others how to go about it. And to think, my little Geru had changed the town. Well, maybe your Geru helped too.
Social Fears, Everyday Is Halloween
KEY to Characters at the bottom of the page. Background of Personal Journey and having a balanced personality at psychotoons.org Our Journey.
Feeling ISOLATED, the one man out. Wanting to get back at those who seem to not care?
When we feel others are by passing us, ignoring us, we feel isolated, alone, our needs for others company is not being met. We are a herd animal. We feel our best when we interact in a positive way with others. If we were not born loving to be alone we may fear others.
We can easily get angry, mad that others are so rude. Or we may feel we are inferior and not worthy of their attention, but still they should nurture us. Our Lower Nature can be quick to judge them as being rude and neglectful. We may even want to get revenge.
The ghosts of our past: parents who told us we were no good, siblings that made fun of us, friends or classmates who tantalized us with bad remarks, they all are ghosts of the past that swirl around us carrying on the ridicule and telling us to give up. So revenge may sound good to us, at least it would give us something to do besides sit and suffer. So off our Lower Nature goes to get revenge, to get back what we felt we never got, to trick and not treat them as they did not treat us. Time to go TRICK OR TREAT WITHOUT THE TREAT!
Victims can be anybody or anything or only people that remind them of the ghosts from the past.
Now the games begin. They lie or deceive to blind others, are selfish and so steal their goodies, they blame others not themselves, and start fights, in this case a food fight as Crow directs the kid to put the pumpkin on the girls head.
As long as the Upper Nature is too small to direct otherwise the Lower Nature will direct us to create havoc. This will go on until someone stops us or we are able to stop ourselves.
So how do we stop ourselves? We can read for advice or ask others. Or even begin to feel bad about what we do and decide we need to change. So what are the steps to stopping?
We have to muster up the courage or just make the choice to just yell at the top of our awareness, STOP! This is an alert signal, even the Lower Nature will stop to see if there is danger around.
Now we have to make the conscious decision to ignore all the nonsense of the Lower Nature’s advice, of lie, cheat, blame and steal, and return our dark side to the position of submission to the Upper Nature. It will shrink as we focus on the right things.
How do we do that? First we must feel empathy for others, that will turn off the fear. Our nervous system is a one way street, we either emanate hate or love, not both at the same time. We also have to insist we will be patient and not get fun and excitement from wrong doing. We make a conscious choice and we blindly follow it, as we did when we followed the wrong choices. We just do what is right until it becomes a habit.
We wait, patiently feeling empathy and love for the other. We focus on them, our energy now is for them. This makes the Lower Nature return to passivity.
As Empathy and Patience grow allowing Geru and rightful thinking to grow again and Fear and Impulsiveness to shrink, then consciousness, Mr/Ms Do, grows also. We are again balanced. Now we can join others in the fun things. And we soon find out that most others never did really ignore us, they though we were ignoring them!
